2019 Match reports

16th June 2019

It was another busy weekend of league and cup cricket over the past two days, despite the weather trying to ruin it.
On Saturday the 1st team hosted Grampound Road who were asked to bat by home skipper Callum Wilson who took an early wicket in a testing opening spell. Patient batting followed and a good platform was set for overseas player Ravinda Karunarathana to take on the bowling and score a quick half century. Wilson returned to take his wicket and Matt Butler set about on taking the wickets of the lower order as he claimed a first Wadebridge five-fer as Grampund totalled 202-9 in their fifty overs. Butler ended up taking 5-44 and Wilson 2-18 in ten excellent overs. In reply Matt Jolliffe (29) and Kevin Renecke (22) built a good partnership before a rain delay of nearly an hour meant a revised DLS target of 168 from 35 overs was set. Upon their dismissals, James Turpin and Butler shared a partnership of 60 in just 41 balls to get ahead of the DLS rate and despite some wickets falling, Turpin batted with maturity to hit a six with 17 balls remaining to end on 64no and a 5 wicket win, the first at home in the league this season.
The 2nd team made the journey to Luckett and under grey skies elected to bowl first in a game reduced to 33 overs because of weather and ground conditions. Skipper Rob Centini and Tristan Plant each took 3 wickets to dismiss the hosts for 122 but in reply found the going very difficult, only Jordan Stone (22) passing 20 as they were bowled out for 77 to give the hosts a comfortable win.
The 3rd team welcomed South Petherwin to Pencarrow with the visitors batting first. Andrew Tinker and Carl Jeffery both took 3 wickets as 179 was scored. The reply was dominated by Steve Meneer who scored his first ever league century, going on to end unbeaten on 110 to carry on his great form as the 3rd team won by 8 wickets, many congratulations Steve. Jeffery completed a good all round match with 42 as the team recorded their fifth win of the season to sit comfortably in mid-table.
Sunday saw the 1st team replay their National Cup game at Truro which was abandoned the previous Sunday. In a low scoring game, Renecke (32) and Turpin (31) top scored as 139 was totalled before being bowled out in the last over. In reply the hosts were ahead of the game at the halfway point before two quick wickets fell to Sam Richards (3-34) and then three to Charlie Ellis (4-22) leaving Turpin (pictured bowling, (he took 3-21)) bowled the nast man to give a narrow 14 run win. That means the 1st team go through to the regional final which will be at Clevedon on Sunday 30th June.
This week the 2nd team are at home to St Minver on Wednesday in T20 action, and Allstars, Womens Softtball and Junor Cricket will be back on on Friday evening.

Saturday's league fixtures saw all three men's teams in action, with 1 win from the 3 games played.
The 1st team welcomed unbeaten league leaders Redruth to The Riverside for just the 2nd home league game of the season. Batting first the home team probably should have scored more than the 180 they eventually made, James Turpin top scoring with 52 and supported by Kevin Renecke with 40 and Charlie McLachlan with 22. In reply early wickets from Callum Wilson, Ollie Bate and a fortunate run out reduced Redruth to 44-4, but Christian Purchase was still there and made the most of several chances not being taken to score 91 including 7 fours and 6 sixes to take the team to within 16 with 3 wickets in hand. However two wickets fell for no score including Wilson's third wicket to dismiss Purchase leaving numbers 10 and 11 at the crease. They were able to score the runs required to give the visitors a tense win and a fifth straight victory to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League in a game where both teams had chances.
The 2nd team made the journey to St Erme, with the hosts batting first and doing well to score 186-6 in a reduced 42 overs following some rain. Ben Hurst took 3-29 and Harry Tinker 2-35. In reply the batters found it hard to keep up with scoring rate against some disciplined bowling and despite 32 from Tom Wood and 27 from Neil Richards could only muster 153 as they were bowled out in the final over.
The 3rd team welcomed Milton Abbot, with the visitors electing to field. Openers Kevin Gill (53) and Carl Jeffery (60) both scored half centuries and were well supported by Steve Meneer with 35, Gareth Dix with 28no and Ben Stokes (no not that one) with 20no as the good score of 230-5 was made on a very good Pencarrow wicket. In reply the visitors gave it a good go but were eventually all out for 213 in the last over as Jeffery completed a good all round match with 3 wickets and Meneer and Kieran Gill both taking 2.
On Sunday the 1st team were in National Cup action against Truro but the game was abandoned due to a heavy rain and hail shower that made conditions unplayable after the 19th over. The game will be replayed at Truro on Sunday.

3 June 2019

A busy 10 days of cricket was brought to an end on Saturday and brought to an end in style with all three men's teams winning for the first time this season.
The 1st team made the long journey to St Just who won the toss and batted first. Early wickets were taken by the ageless Dave Dunnett, James Turpin and captain Callum Wilson to reduce the hosts to 75-5, Dunnett completing a ten over spell on the spin taking 2-35, a superb effort. The middle order recovered the innings before Sam Richards and the returning Wilson took wickets to end the innings in the last over at 221, Richards taking 2 wickets and Wilson claiming a deserved 5 wickets to return excellent figures of 5-37 in a pacy display. In reply Richards and Kevin Renecke built a strong partnership following an early wicket before Richards was dismissed for 27. Renecke carried on his terrific form and was well supported by Matt Bennetts (who made 32 in a partnership of 71) and along with Wilson saw the team home in the 49th over. Renecke scored a second successive century, ending on 108 not out off 125 balls with 11 fours and 1 six to give the team an excellent victory on the road.
The 2nd team welcomed Roche to the Riverside who won the toss and batted first. They were dismissed for 161 as Neil Richards took four wickets and Stuart Parkyn and Jonny Centini two each. In reply under 15 player Jamie Beare played a superb innings, hitting the ball hard scoring 86 before he was dismissed with the target in sight. Opening partner Tom Wood continued from his unbeaten 90 the previous game to end not out on 41 as a very good 9 wicket victory was achieved to move the team up to 3rd place in their new Division 2 East surroundings.
The 3rd team made the journey to St Erme and batting first scored 215-4, Paul Roberts carrying his bat for 85 and was well supported by Steve Meneer with 42 and Gareth Dix who scored an unbeaten 38. In reply St Erme were always in with a shout but 3 wickets in an over from Harry Tinker and good spells from Jack Knight and Kieran Gill kept the score tight before a narrow 4 run victory was achieved. Attached are some pictures from the 3rd team game courtesy of Gary Knight.
It's a quieter week this week with no midweek T20 men's fixtures, league action resumes on Saturday.
Well done to all 3 teams for their wins on Saturday, a terrific effort from all.
